Even though these two conditions are not directly related their cause are are very similar in that they are diet related. Gout was known in the earlier days as the disease of kings because of the life style of kings. Follow the link to "Disease of Kings" Gout is caused or at least aggravated by an unhealthy diet. For example high purine foods like organ meats, shell fish, and high sugary drinks can increase the risk of having a gout attack. The eating habits of those who get gout may also cause obesity, and with obesity the risk of type 2 diabetes increases. The conclusion of all this is that those who get gout may have a high risk of getting type 2 diabetes as well. For more information please follow the link to webmd, this site will explain the risks and how you may reduce the risks of both gout and diabetes.
Eat well, Live well.

This prompts the question of how do we loose weight and keep it off? There are may products that claim that they will help you drop the weight and keep it off if you take this pill and keep taking it the rest of your life. There is also the shakes, drinks, bars and supplements. Some of them work others are just a gimmick to get your hard earned cash.
I have a friend that started to use SENSA®, he is about 60 years old with diabetes, bad back and other ailments. I saw him about a year ago and he looked sick and unhealthy. Then the other day I ran into him in the pharmacy, he looked healthy with more energy. I asked him what he was doing that he looked so healthy. He told me that he started to use SENSA® and that he has lost about 40 lbs. He said that he started to feel so good that he was swimming every day at a local fitness center.
I am not sure if it was the SENSA® or the swimming that has made the difference. I think it was a combination of both. All I know is he looks more healthy than he has in years, he looks like he has more energy and his attitude seemed to even have improved.
Dr. Oz had a special on his show about SENSA® and if I remember it correctly they were unable to disprove it or prove it. I guess that you will just have to give it a try and see if it works for you. Keep an open mind and the write about your experience.
Good Luck

See the following;
Risk factors
Gout is 9 times more common in men than women. Gout often affects men in their 40's and 50's although gout attacks can occur after puberty. Gout attacks are more common in women after menopause. Gout attacks are also more common in people with kidney disease. The following factors increase your risk for gout:
advancing age
drinking a large amount of alcohol, particularly beer
eating purine-rich foods
exposure to lead
family history of the condition
male gender
obesity
other, serious illness
organ transplants
thyroid problems
use of certain drugs, including diuretics, aspirin, cyclosporine, or levodopa
The sooner gout symptoms are treated the better. Many people experience a gout attack every few weeks, months or years. It's impossible to predict whether gout will strike again, however over 50% of people experience a second attack within 12 months of the first gout attack. To learn how to identify the first symptoms of gout, read the section on Gout Symptoms that follows.

Gout HURTS Gout causes a person to become immobile. Below are some segments I've taken from a recent website I have visited.

What is gout? It is a chronic medical condition characterized by recurring attacks of pain or inflammatory arthritis in affected areas. Over time, uric acid levels can build up in your bloodstream and eventually, the acid will crystallize. When this happens, gout results.
The website lists symptoms of gout and treatments for gout. I have my Wife, Son and a Daughter on it along with myself. So far I really like the service and have had no significant problems with the service. I am using the Samsung Dart phone, it is a Smart Phone but doesn't have all the bells and whistles other Smart Phones have. Walmart Family Mobile uses T-Mobile as their carrier, I have used T-Mobile in the past and enjoyed the service. I have found that I have service in buildings and other areas where other services are weak or no service at all.
Just wanted to let you know of a little place in Logan, Utah that is a great little hamburger joint. It's a simple little place and they don't spend a lot on the ambiance and it is only open from about 10;00 AM to 7:00 PM. It is located on South Main Street at 695 South Main Street Phone number is 435-755-2851. They serve on of the best hamburgers in town with a price that won't break the bank. I have tried their Mushroom Swiss Burger and Fries. They never short you on food and the staff is friendly. I have also tried their regular Hamburger, and Pastrami Burger, all of them excellent. They serve cold sandwiches as well. If you find yourself in Logan and have some time for lunch stop by Burger Express and enjoy a hamburger or sandwich with fries

Here it is Jan 30th, 2013 and my gout has been almost non existent. I have had some pain in my toes (the big toe joint) on both feet. The pain has only lasted one day or even less and never bad enough to keep me from getting things done.
I am looking for work either part time or full time. Oh by the way I was visiting with a manager of a local restaurant and it appears that because of our new "Affordable Healthcare" that some small businesses are only hiring part time help because of the fines associated with the New Plan. The manager told me that she was going to try to employee share. That means that she is going to work with other managers and share a cook. The cook would then get close to full time hours and both businesses would have the benefit of a skilled cook. I could see how this might work for other businesses.

Welcome to the new way of doing business.

See ya

Here it is the 6th of January 2013 the world didn't end, the sky hasn't fallen and despite our White House and Congress unable to make any decision on any one thing the government is still operating (poorly and inefficiently). Those in congress and the white house still are getting raises and collecting money after they have left their respective offices which is wrong on several levels, and their approval rating lower than any time history. Life isn't bad, it is our attitudes that make all the difference. With a good attitude we are able to tolerate many things. Even gout; we find that if you can keep a good attitude and we find that if we can joke about the condition and maintain a positive attitude that condition of gout seems to shorter and less intense.

So in the end keep a positive attitude and live life at your best at all time.

Best Regards
I have written many resumes that have gotten interviews and led to employment. I am also in a position where I could use work, but when I look through the job postings I find myself very dis-satisfied with what I find. Most of my career I have worked in a factory situation in Quality Control departments. I have been a Process Inspector all the way to a Quality Manager. Now when I look at factory work I get a feeling of being confined. What do I do now? What other type of employment is out there, and how do I find it?

I believe that I would like to do some work from my home, for example a personal call center, maybe a researcher, or an article writer. If anyone has a great idea please feel free to comment on my blog.

Happy reading
Most of the time they feel like they are raw and even the socks and pant legs rubbing against them feels painful. They also have twinges of pain frequently. I have been watching my A1C, the last two time it was above 7, before that I have several that were in the high 6's I hoping to bring it back down into the 6's next time I check. That is just about a month away. How is your health, gout, diabetes, obesity, or a combination of things. Please feel free to comment.
Thanksgiving is behind us and we are looking forward to Christmas. My wife and I are on the Dave Ramsey budget, we just started so we have a lot of work to do. Our debt is fairly low in respect to total debt, but our debt to income ratio it's very lop-sided. I have selected one debt to focus on and when that is paid off I will move to the next debt in line. I have several items for sale including my motorcycle and my 1998 Jeep with these two items sold we will have our emergency fund in place and a good jump on the second or third bill in line.
Well this will be an exciting new project for us to work on, and I'm excited to see success as we move forward in this project.

Well I'll let you know how things go.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-68699594799086764472011-11-13T20:14:00.001-08:002011-11-13T20:14:56.231-08:00Things have been going so well that I may need to change the name of my blog to "I don't Got Gout". I have been without gout for six months or so. I still have some stiffness in my joints, but nothing too bad. My wife has started the diet and exercise program that Jillian Michaels promotes. She is dragging me along with her and we are both are doing good. She has lost eight pounds and I have lost six. Aside from the weight loss my diabetes is much more under control. My insulin usage has dropped from 120(+) units to ten units a day. I have been exercising on a daily basis and even though it's been only a week I am feeling better already. Having said all that I am far from perfect at sticking strictly to it, but I'm getting better. So if you're like me start a diet and exercise program and you'll feel better. Don't worry if you aren't perfect, even the smallest change will help.

Better run, have a great day and start something good.

KevinAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-82582581523753305242011-01-14T13:24:00.000-08:002011-01-14T13:33:56.519-08:00Just a short noteGreetings all
It's now almost the middle of January, the temperature out doors is cold at best. I sure like the warm weather better. I think Spring and Fall are my favorite times of year. Not too hot and not too cold.

I have been gout free for some time now and it has been great. I'm not doing anything special, I take my allopurnal and have cut back on the sugars and calories. Not enough to contribute any significant weight loss.

Just wanted to give an update.

KevinAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-44308494628033849592010-12-27T20:07:00.001-08:002010-12-27T20:21:57.705-08:00My December 2010 PostHere we are the end of December. The new year is just around the corner, with all its new adventures a head of us. If we're lucky the green headed gout monster will not be one of those adventures. This promises to be a year of challenges, political as well as personal. We can affect the political, but our area of greater influence will be in our personal lives. I plan on taking several steps to improve my health and quality of life. Take a look at your life and find one or two areas that will make your life more meaningful to you and your loved ones. Set some goals and establish mileposts, measure your progress and adjust your goals.

I have been gout free, or at least mostly for about a year or more. I need to loose about 130 lbs this will help lower my risk of having high uric acid. Anyway good luck with your goals and wishes for the coming year.

Best wishes

KevinAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-17665808093256179582010-11-26T21:39:00.000-08:002010-11-26T21:44:52.875-08:00The Last Several Weeks! Here it is, the day after Thanksgiving and my wifes birthday. Thank you Lorie and Happy Birthday!

Well a few weeeks ago I got the gout again. I was in the ball of my foot and felt like I was walking on a marble. It lasted several days and then slowly went away. Then shortly after I got a cold, spent one day in bed and have been coughing now for about three days. Winter has it's pluses though, life slows down a little and we can take some time time to reflect, or in my case wonder how I'm going to pay next months bills. Of course I do that all summer anyway.

My wife and I have been talking about the bills and planning ways to reduce our overhead. We have decided to sell many of our items that we can live without, like our vehicles, the tractor business. We have decided to make our adult children pay for things that they have conveniently neglected to re-reimburse us for, like their auto insurance and certain living expenses. May be if our plan is successful we will be empty nesters - ha ha.

Well since this is a blog about gout I should spend some time talking about that for a while. Over the last several weeks the fight against gout has gone well. I woke up with it in my knee one morning, I didn't take anything for it, but as the day progressed it went away completely. I've also had it in my toes and wrist a little but not so much that I had to stop working. I have had touch of the old arthritis and achey muscles mainly in the morning and if I sit for an extended period of time it's hard to get moving again, I think my diet is causing that.

Well I better run for now. In my next post I am going to post some photos of the camp where my Son and I are hosting.

Good bloggingAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-92199648159791897892010-07-19T18:01:00.000-07:002010-07-19T18:12:28.662-07:00Another month with no goutHello everyone,

Yes it's been another month with no gout. I've been helping my son with some camp host duties and it's caused me to be much more active. I've lost several pounds and been in the sun a lot. I believe that the more active a person is, gout is less prone to occur. I still have a lot of weight to loose but I feel more motivated than in the past. Oh, and I have cut way back on the soda pop, I still have one now and then but only one or two a week. I think that I'll even give that up so it will be one or two a month. The soda pop has way too much sugar and the diet is just nasty. Besides I have read that the artificial sweetener stimulates your appetite. Anyway, going so long without gout is awesome. I better run, Stay gout free

KevinAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-39178503353667421532010-06-25T21:40:00.000-07:002010-06-25T21:50:49.862-07:00It has been a good run so far!I haven't posted for several months because I have had "NO Gout". Now I've said that I hope I haven't altered some force in the universe that will bring the gout back to me.

Well we have moved back to my home town for about 1 1/2 years and then it will be on to a new adventure. We have all been very busy and I think that may be one reason that gout has stayed away for so long. I believe that the more active a person is the lower the chance is of getting gout.

Now my Son is a camp host in a local campground and I have been helping him. It is kind of fun and it keeps me active. The best part about it is talking to all the people who are camping. I have met some great people.

Better runAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-8535824045245750282010-03-30T21:34:00.000-07:002010-04-08T20:49:39.528-07:00Today is moving dayHere it is, the first night in our new digs, My brother and Sister-in-law are serving a mission for the church and we are living in there home for 16 months while they are away. So we have put our home up for sale and moved in their home.

Their home is a nice home, its heated by propane and wood so it doesn't have the nice forced air furnaces I have been use to, These heaters require a little more effort than the forced air furnace. This means that gathering up and chopping wood (Let me finish this tomorrow)

Well here we are, it's been about a week since I started this entry. I think I was writing this when it was very late, because I had some words that I didn't recognise. I corrected them, I still can't figure out what I was trying to write.

As I mentioned we are living in another house for about 18 months while my brother and his wife are away on a service mission. I have had a small bit of gout in my right toes but nothing that is keeping me from getting around. I believe that my gout runs in our family. My father and mother both had it. I have one brother that gets it from time to time but fir the most part his is under control. The meds that I'm on for gout seem to help so I'll just keep doing what I need to to keep the big monster away.

Better run for now.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2491274713743331072.post-33275118529015815002010-03-25T11:09:00.000-07:002010-03-25T14:32:34.430-07:00Just a little (more) researchThe website listed below is selling a product I have not tried, therefore I have no opinion of it's effectiveness.

In doing a little more research on gout I'm finding more and more that diet, although important is not the most significant cause of gout. Below is a statement I found at the web site uloric.com.

" When it comes to gout, diet is just one part of the story, and it comes into the picture differently than you might expect. Despite popular mis-perceptions, diet is not the root cause of gout. However, it is one of many things that can trigger gout attacks in people who already have high uric acid levels. Gout isn't caused by the foods you eat or the beverages you choose. It's caused by a buildup of uric acid in your blood. "

This site talks about the importance of treating the cause, not just the pain. I know that when I'm in the middle of a gout attack all I want to do is get the pain to stop. Then when it finally does I conclude that the treatment worked. That may not be the case. Just because the pain is gone the cause of the pain is just waiting there for the right conditions to attack again.

As far as diet goes the research suggests that diet is only about 1/3rd the cause of uric acid production and that your body produces the other 2/3rds of uric acid acid on its own. So if your body is already producing high levels of uric acid then you add a big plate of shrimp to your diet you have just pushed the levels too high and the "Gout Monster" is on its way!

Well thats all for now, stay gout free and healthy.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15756644953224434845noreply@blogger.com1
